Maris was Jacks 5th boat, a 36 foot 7 tonne Huon pine yawl from legendry GRETEL 11 designer Alan Payne & built by Hobarts famous shipwright, Jock Muir on the banks of the Derwent at Battery point in 1958. Named after Jacks only daughter, Maris earned an enviable racing reputation but was best known for her Pacific cruises over tremendous distances. Over 6 years she covered over 50,000 miles, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada & countless islands in between.
